On October 7th I completed my event management with our Sports Information Director, Steve Ruthsatz. It was a women's soccer match against Tennessee Wesleyan College from Athens, Tennessee. I never dreamed of how much work he does to prepare for each and every game.
We met at the soccer field at 12:15 to begin the pre-game process. Basically the pre-game is nothing but setting up audio and electrical equipment. We placed the game brochures in the media guide box before the game for the fans and spectators to pick up if they wanted to. He had several boxes of media equipment to set up including microphones, speakers, internet connection, and the scoreboard.
During the game Steve did the PA and I pretty much just watched and learned.
Post-game is nothing but cleaning up and tearing down what we put up before the game.
I learned a lot during this event management assignment. Like I mentioned before I never dreamed of how much is required for a soccer game to run smoothly.
